Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to demonstrate in written examination, course work and class discussion:
Knowledge and understanding of Greek History from the 8th century BC to 30 BC; collecting, synthesising and criticising primary and secondary source materials; presenting extended pieces of reasoned argument on the basis of evidence; evaluating different approaches to material and expressing clearly arguments orally and in writing. Transferable skills:- - ability to deal independently with a highly complex body of material; - ability to develop lateral thinking and to view things in a wider perspective; - analytical skills; - team work skills; - ability to concentrate on important aspects, and to make use of these in a meaningful way; - ability to communicate one's own findings and opinions clearly and lucidly; - oral presentation skills; - written communication skills. One essay (not more than 2500 words) - 40%.
One (2-hour) degree examination paper - 60%. Exam times
