English Literature Long Essay (Modern European Languages) (U03523)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : LLC-3-U02073 In consultation with the department, students will identify a topic in English Literature for an independent Long Essay project, for which resources are available during the students' residence abroad. Students will have e-mail access to staff for consultation during the year. The Long Essay will be researched and written during the year abroad, and submitted in September on the students' return to Edinburgh for year 4. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : A pass in English or Scottish Literature 1 and English, Scottish or American Literature 2 at 50 or above at the first attempt. Students successfully completing the course will learn how to generate and approach a research project independently. They will develop their capacity for sustained independent work including the identification of a suitable topic, location and use of appropriate research materials, and writing up of a sustained literary project.
Assessment Information
A Long Essay of c 6,000 words on a topic in English Literature, presented in scholarly form with appropriate notes and bibliography
