Russian Studies 1A (U03565)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : LLC-1-GE0005 The course aims at achieving a basic knowledge of the Russian language in main receptive and productive skills. The aims of the course include building up the grammar and vocabulary base for entering the second year or for continuing independent study of Russian. The Russian Culture component of the course offers an introduction to main historical events in Russia and its cultural and literary achievements. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A pass in at least one classical or modern foreign language at SCE Higher or advanced GCE, or equivalent evidence of linguistic proficiency. By the end of the course students will have a basic knowledge of Russian language in receptive and productive skills. Additionally students will be familiar with the main historic events which had contributed to the formation of Russian national and cultural identity and with main literary movements from the 18th century to the end of the 20th century.
Assessment Information
Language exercises; two essays. Classwork = 50%; Degree exam 50%.
