The Impact of Photography on Art Practice and Theory (U03591)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : ACE-4-U03591 This module examines central issues in the aesthetics and politics of contemporary art, through a focus on the impact of photography on art practice of the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries. The course does not provide a narrative history of photographers and photographic movements, nor does it recount key issues and debates within the history of photographic practice. Rather, the course is designed to enable students to develop a sophisticated appreciation of the transformations in art practice and theory which photography brought about, and the aesthetic and political debates in the wider field of contemporary art which have arisen as a consequence of photography's impact. Students will acquire knowledge of a range of historical and contemporary artists and artworks, and of key issues and debates in the field of twentieth-century and contemporary art.
