Pre-requisites : Advanced-level ability in Greek language and literature, equivalent to two years' study at the University of Edinburgh (if uncertain, consult the course organiser). ? Special Arrangements for Entry : This course is only for visiting students in Edinburgh during the 1st Semester but NOT the 2nd Semester. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:-
- translate fluently and accurately from the prescribed texts into clear and appropriate English; - comment intelligently on notable matters of form, style, and content (including metre), both in class and in examinations; - compose well-argued and coherent examination essays; - compose well-argued, properly referenced, well-researched, and coherent coursework essays; - make judicious use of dictionaries, commentaries, works of reference, critical studies, and modern translations. One essay - 30%; one 'take-home' examination - 70%.
