Psychology 1 (VS1) (U03917)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : PPL-1-PS1V1-PS A one-semester introduction to contemporary scientific psychology, covering a subset of topics from biological, cognitive, developmental, individual-difference, and social psychology, together with relevant aspects of the methodology and history of psychology. The topics included may vary from year to year. In 2007/2008 they will include: human memory, differential psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and comparative & evolutionary psychology. Entry Requirements? On completion of each section of the lecture course, students should be able to:
- Define key psychological concepts and illustrate them with relevant examples. - Understand basic theoretical questions and arguments. - Outline the types of research methods used in addressing these questions. - Summarise some classic and some recent findings. - Discuss how these findings relate to theoretical questions and arguments. Assessment Information
One essay of 1500 to 2000 words plus a 2 hour degree exam at the end of Semester 1. The course mark combines marks for the tutorial essay (30%), and the degree exam (70%).
To fulfil the course requirements requires: submission of 1 essay and participation in 4 tutorials, in addition to the 1 semester examination. Exam times
