The course aims to develop skills of architectural inquiry. Progressing from Year 1, students are asked to design more complex buildings concentrating, in particular, on themes of public and private, the site and situation. The class takes a study trip to a selected European city each year, and this forms the backdrop to much of the studio during the year. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
A basic understanding of contemporary issues in architecture and urbanism
A critical understanding of issues related to the public and private domains.
A further understanding of design principles and theories.
An ability to develop and to communicate an architectural idea and response to site from intention through to a coherent architectural proposal.
An understanding of the way research and development of a brief can inform an architectural proposition
An ability to consider, select and articulate material, structural and constructional aspects of an architectural proposition
An ability to research, analyse and form a considered judgement about the qualities of a design.
An ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and visually, using appropriate media to convey and to critically appraise the particular qualities of a design. |

Drawn, modelled and documented design studio work & project panels presented as a portfolio for examination at the end of the course (100%) |
