Indicative Module Content
Ideas used in environmental perception will be introduced. Cognition, phenomenology, decision-making and decision models will be explained. Space syntax will be outlined. Techniques for appraising external space will be described.
Exercises will explore techniques of evaluation and design for punctual and linear spaces. The processes, which govern change and the participants in the process, will be considered.
Aims of Module
1. To introduce the principles of perception in urban space
2. To develop an understanding of the nature and types of urban space
3. To appreciate the skills required in interdisciplinary group work
Mode of Delivery
There are two studio exercises supported by regular lectures, tutorials, presentations and reviews. Students will work in different groups in each exercise.
