Course description PLEASE NOTE: THIS COURSE IS DELIVERED BY DISTANCE LEARNING - OWNED AND ADMINISTRATED BY HERIOT-WATT UNIVERSITY. Module leader Harris, D. Student effort hours 150.

To introduce the concept of energy management in buildings for energy efficiency and sustainability.
To give the students the tools necessary to carry out energy audits, to advise on potential energy saving measures, and to assess the effectiveness of energy efficiency measures, including low and zero carbon technologies(LZCT).

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Student should be able to:
? Understand the role of the energy manager
? Carry out an energy audit on a building
? Analyse energy consumption data for a building
? Assess the energy efficiency of a building
? Identify energy waste in a building
? Identify and assess the effectiveness of methods of reducing energy consumption in a range of building types
? Advise on the optimum methods of reducing energy use in buildings
? Formulate an energy management plan
? Understand the role of government and other stakeholders in improving energy efficiency
? Understand the need to maintain safe levels of lighting etc, and other conditions while reducing energy use
? Advise on funding and grant options for energy efficiency measures

Analysis of numerical data
Ability to communicate ideas on energy efficiency at various levels
Knowledge of the various bodies concerned with energy use in buildings
