| Course description |
Students must gain a pass of 50% or more in Chinese Language II and an average of 50% or more in the lecture courses in order to proceed to the disseration. The MCS is awarded on the basis of the mark gained for the dissertation. The dissertation will be 15,000 words in length (including footnotes and bibliography). Candidates who fail to achieve the MCS standard in their marked coursework will not be allowed to proceed further with the writing of the dissertation. MCS candidates failing to achieve an adequate standard in the dissertation may be awarded the diploma. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will have a good knowledge of modern Chinese history, society and culture, and advanced knowledge in modern politics, economics, business or management;
students will be able to communicate this knowledge effectively in writing, with attention to coherent structure, logical argument, a high level of literacy, and advanced presentation skills;
students will be able to collect, compile and evaluate critically primary and secondary sources in aspects of modern Chinese society and culture.
