Course description |
Change management in private, public and third sector organisations is the central theme of the course, drawing upon examples and cases from Scotland, the rest of Europe and referencing international examples. The course includes detailed references to classic and current theoretical and research literature on the subject, coupled to current examples of best practice. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate the following knowledge and understanding.
- Have deep awareness of the theoretical and practical issues associated with change management, in particular the tool and techniques currently relevant to private, public and third sector organisations.
- Be able to discuss critically the challenges facing change managers and strategists.
- Assess critically the strategic options facing managers and leaders intent upon product and process changes.
- Robustly consider the issues associated with leading staff through intra- and inter-organisational change processes.
- Evaluate critically the various strategic options and models for change management, including international best practices.
- Be able to effectively understand the dynamics of relevant networks, partnering arrangements and complementarities, thus enhancing their ability to work in or do business with PAs.
- Speculate upon the perspectives and prospects for change trends and their likelihood of success.
Upon completing the course, students will have developed the following cognitive skills.
- Be able to critically digest, analyse and synthesise a wide range of theoretical and empirical material relating to change management and change processes.
- Demonstrate critical facility and the confidence to challenge contrary viewpoints.

? essay (maximum 2,000 words, due week 5) ? 30% of total marks
? major report (maximum 2,500 words, due by end of term) ? 60% of total marks
? 10% of marks allocated for student presentations during course meetings
