Course description The course, which is intended primarily for students of the MSc in First Millennium Studies, will provide an overview of the politics and theology of the Seven Ecumenical Councils recognised in the first millennium by both East and West.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will have a familiarity with the decisions and documents of all the councils studied, and the political and theological debates which led to them, and be able to demonstrate understanding of the way in which the latter were expressed in the former.
