Course description |
The course covers policy and practice directing the management and use of natural resources; utilisation of renewable and non renewable resources; the instruments of environmental policies; social cost benefit analysis applied to environmental issues; planning techniques used to manage natural resource utilisation and conflicts arising from multiple use of resources. It is a module based course providing experience in using the tools of resource managers. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course students will be expected to be able to:
1. Critically appreciate policies relating to natural resource use
2. Interpret the effects of economic instruments on natural resource use
3. Assess the value of market and non-market costs and benefits of natural resources
4. Apply cost benefit analysis in environmental projects
5. Understand the professional procedure of conducting environmental impact assessments
6. Use a few routine and specialised tools for policy and project evaluation
7. Carry out stakeholder analysis
8. Interpret, use and evaluate numerical and graphical data in the form of constructing and executing resource planning programmes
9. Develop computer skills appropriate to natural resource management
10. Enhance their investigative, analytical and communication skills through problem solving cases so that students are able to undertake critical analysis of ideas and can draw on a range of sources in making judgements. |
