Course description This module will provide students with knowledge and experience of techniques of project planning and management that are required to achieve project objectives effectively. This will include:
Defining the project required to achieve the objectives
Describing and managing a scope of work and organisation to achieve them
Achieving the objectives to the required specification and within budget
Building and controlling a project team
Ensuring timely and effective completion
Understanding the role of a project manager

Case study examples of projects relevant to ecological science will accommodate a range of student interest. Experience and appreciation of tools and techniques will allow students to assess their own need for further development.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will have a comprehensive, integrated knowledge and experience of techniques of project planning and management that are required to achieve project objectives effectively. Students will be shown an integrated approach to the planning and management of any project that considers how the scope of work, the time and resources available, economic constraints and quality of work can be planned and controlled to meet the project objectives. Students will learn how to communicate with professional level peers and will know how to take significant responsibility for the work of others and for a range of resources. Students will be given the opportunity to practise in a range of professional level contexts and will be expected to analyse complex problems and identify the relevant outcomes.
Assessment Information
There will be one major intermittent assessment comprising the preparation of a project definition report.
