Course description This course in spoken and written French is designed for students who have some knowledge of French (approximately Standard Grade/GCSE level) and who wish to extend it. Note: Numbers on this course are restricted. Priority is given to undergraduate students in the College of Science and Engineering. Other interested students must consult the Course Organiser, Mrs Sylvie Slater (Sylvie.Slater@ed.ac.uk)School of European Languages and Cultures (French). This is not a graduating course in the College of Humanities and Social Science. Exemption is not possible - all students take all elements of assessment including the examination.

Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Introductory French Language (ELCF07001)
Other requirements A Pass at Standard Grade or GCSE or equivalent. Students with a lower level of attainment may be admissible, but should consult the Course Organiser. Students with higher levels of attainment will normally be admitted to level 2, but should take French 1B (FR0076) if they have A level A or B or Higher A or B.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Improved competence in the four main skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing French. This greater competence is intended to lead to greater confidence and to enhance the ability to
learn independently.
Assessment Information
Regular coursework including class tests and oral assignments.
Coursework 55%; exam 45%.
