Course description This course in spoken and written French is designed for students who have completed the Elementary French Language course, or who have reached an equivalent standard. Students who have taken the Elementary course and who do not proceed to Intermediate the same session are encouraged to spend some time in a French-speaking country during the summer vacation preceding the Intermediate course. This course is not suitable for students who have qualifications which would allow them to enter French 1B. This is not a graduating course in the College of Humanities and Social Science.

Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Intermediate French Language (ELCF07004)
Other requirements A pass in Introductory French Language (ELCF07001 or ELCF07002). A pass in French at AS level- or at Higher grades C - or at A level grades C, D or E. Students with Higher A or B or A level A or B should enter French 1B (ELCF08006).

Pre-requisites Entry to any language course above introductory level is subject to a language test by the relevant subject area on arrival and at the discretion of the course organiser.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students are taken from their intermediate level to an advanced intermediate one and are qualified at the end of the course to enter French 1B (FR0076). All skills are enhanced and the ability to work independently is encouraged and developed.
Assessment Information
Regular coursework including class tests and oral assignments.
Coursework (oral and written) = 60%; degree examination = 40%.
