Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To enable students, through the development of their grasp of the French language (written and oral), their appreciation of French culture, their critical abilities, and their independent study skills, to undertake programmes of study at francophone universities on reasonably equal terms with francophone students, and / or work on projects for Edinburgh University during their residence abroad, including preparation for dissertations to be completed in 4th year; and to prepare students for the advanced language course and intensive seminar-based content courses of French 4 Hons.
Assessment Information
Literature: 2 essays of not more than 1500 words each worth 150 marks), 4 written language exercises (worth 100 marks); 1.5 hour Grammar test in December (worth 50 marks); oral work (worth 50 marks). Class work constitutes 35% of final assessment. Degree exams: literature, 2 hours (worth 300 marks); written language, 3 hours (worth 200 marks); oral exam (worth 50 marks). The end-of-year exams constitute 65% of the final assessment.
