Course description Students are introduced to a systematic approach to electronic / electrical system design and innovation. The key elements of the approach are:

1. design from external specifications;
2. problem definition;
3. physical understanding;
4. solution generation with value judgement;
5. "realisation" of potential solutions. Students are encouraged to develop their own solutions.

The aims of this module are:

1. To introduce students the use of a suitable numerical modeling software application for system design;
2. To introduce students to designing from professional specifications;
3. To introduce students to working with minimal supervision;

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Digital Signal Analysis 4 (ELEE10010) AND ( Digital Communications 4 (ELEE10006) OR Power Systems and Machines 4 (ELEE10005))

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students should:
1. Acquire skills in creative technical thinking and design of systems.
2. Become familiar with using a suitable numerical modeling software application.
3. Be aware of industrial design specification requirements.

1. the student's record of design work attempted,
2. the associated code produced and
3. an oral exam.
