Course description The dissertation project is designed to further develop the student's understanding of the processes and planning involved in undertaking a research project. In addition to demonstrating their ability to communicate their findings in a research document, students will also develop the ability to design, conduct and analyse a research project if undertaking data collection. Students have the opportunity to undertake a desk-based study as an alternative form of thesis. This course will teach students to critically analyse the relevant literature and methodologies used, keep accurate records of procedures and results and critically analyse their findings. Students will also be made aware of the limitations of their findings and develop the ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations from their findings.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Recognise the importance of planning and preparation required to undertake a research project;
Develop a thorough understanding of the chosen subject area;
Demonstrate the ability to collate and critically assess/interpret data;
Develop an ability to effectively communicate knowledge in a scientific manner;
Provide recommendations based on research findings.
Assessment Information
The dissertaion is between 8,000 and 12,000 words, written in the style of a chosen scientific journal, and consisting of Title page, Contents page, Journal Style page, Abstract, Introduction, Review of Literature, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion.
