Course description This course will provide International Animal Health MSc programme students, who generally have a veterinary degree or similar background in animal health and production with a basic training in veterinary aspects of aquaculture as relates to production of fish and other aquatic species in the international and frequently developing country context.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this course the candidate should have a basic understanding of the main production systems for fish and aquatic species, especially in the developing world, and the main animal health issues associated with them. Candidates will use case studies to appreciate the range of infectious agents and non-infectious causes of disease in these situations.

In addition to this the candidate should:
? understand the main underlying concepts and principles involved in rearing healthy aquatic species
? have a working knowledge of the main strategies for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious and non-infectious diseases in these species.
? have an appreciation of the main economic considerations pertaining to commercial aquaculture
Assessment Information
Formal summative written assessment will constitute 60% of the student's grade. Online discussion in both a synchronous and asynchronous environment will contribute further to the final mark. Students will also be required to keep an online reflective personal portfolio. In combination with the submission of electronic course assignments, these elements will provide the remaining 40% of the final mark
Special Arrangements
This course will be taught entirely by distance learning, using the virtual learning environment Web CT as the delivery platform. Course materials are protected by secure username and password access which will be made available to registered users
