Course description Aim: To enable students to develop a critical account of the uses of economic analysis in health policy

Economic analysis is used to determine how to achieve efficiency and equity through the institutions of government and the market. It makes an important contribution to debates about the role of the state and the extent and means of redistribution in society. The five lectures in this course are designed to examine core concepts and methods of economic analysis. Among the concepts discussed are Pareto efficiency, competitive equilibrium, market failure, social valuation of non-marketed goods, and equity.
