Course description |
This course consists of an extended project, lasting 7 weeks, involving the application of experimental techniques to the study of musical instruments. Each student attends two one-hour supervision sessions per week, and is also required to carry out independent research for four hours per week. |

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course it is intended that a student will be able to:
1)carry out a literature search in a defined area of research, and write a report summarising the work previously undertaken in that area;
2)undertake a substantial practical project in musical acoustics, keeping an accurate and detailed record of the work carried out and reporting orally at regular intervals to the project supervisor;
3)produce a word-processed report on a substantial practical project, including an introduction summarising previous work in the field of study, illustrated as appropriate with graphs, diagrams and photographs. |
Assessment Information
Each student is expected to write a report on the project; 50% of the mark for the course is based on the project report, and 50% on an assessment of the student's performance during the project. |
