Course description The course explores contrasting sociological frameworks for the analysis and understanding of work organisations. Large, complex organisations shape our identities, how we live, the work we do and they may influence the way we die. The course examines critically the attempt to devise a "science" of such organisations and questions the desirability, and attainability, of such a project. Through the examination of a range of case studies, issues such as gender, ethnicity and class divisions are explored and the significance of new forms of managerialism are assessed.
