Course description The course aims to provide knowledge and laboratory skills in areas of animal sciences with current and immediate relevance. Areas to be covered will be chosen from fields of expertise and international eminence at the Roslin Institute, which include developmental biology, embryology and reproduction, stem cells and transgenesis, infection and immunity, neurodegenerative disease, avian model systems. In each year the areas to be covered in Seminars in Animal Biosciences B will be different from those covered in Current Topics in Animal Biosciences.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this course, the candidate should have specialised knowledge and experience in their chosen areas of animal biosciences.
The candidate should:
&· be familiar with currently relevant areas of animal biosciences which will include two of:
o the principles of animal development, embryology and reproduction and have experience of relevant laboratory techniques;
o the concepts and possibilities of stem cells and transgenesis and have experience of relevant laboratory techniques;
o interactions between infection and immunity and the role in health and disease and have experience of relevant techniques;
o the biology of neurodegenerative disease;
o avian biology in health and disease;
&· understand how this knowledge might be used in industry;
&· understand the ethical issues raised by each of the fields studies.
