| Course description |
The course would be available to students who are full time or part time or CPD. The course will draw upon the theoretical understanding developed in Health Promotion Philosophy, Principles and Theory. The course will enable students to critically appraise the evidence base and its application to public health practice. The work based application will enable the student to critically appraise and evaluate the role of evidence in informing approaches to improve health and well-being. In addition the student will have the opportunity to demonstrate a critical understanding of and the ability to apply appropriate search and literature review skills of an aspect of public health practice. |

Each student will have a personal academic advisor. In addition fortnightly action learning classes will be held.
An online discussion forum will be used.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Critically explore the debates and tensions within the evaluation of health promotion practice.
Apply the theory of health promotion evaluation in order to assess the evidence base for programmes.
Demonstrate a critical appraisal of the evidence for a key public health topic.
Demonstrate the ability to set appropriate learning objectives in a creative manner
Demonstrate the ability to communicate and justify their formulation of a research project
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of research techniques applicable to their chosen area
Plan and execute project of research, investigation or development
Demonstrate originality or creativity in the application of knowledge, understanding and practices
Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate approaches to research and evaluation
Critical awareness of current issues in the application of research in a particular setting
Demonstrate the ability to critically appraise the evidence for practice.

Assessment Information
The student will be required to submit a learning contract and evidence that the contract has been fulfilled. The critical account presented must demonstrate both the ability to be reflective and reflexive, and demonstrate that the current evidence base for a key public health topic or health promotion approach is appraised.
Examples are;
Evaluating health promotion: methodological diversity and challenges; using research to inform practice; reviewing the evidence of a key public health topic.
The length should be 4,000-5,000 words. Equivalent alternative forms of assessment will be accepted.
Assessments will be marked according to School/College policy and made available for moderation by the External Examiner.
