Course description Students will be invited to explore some of the key concepts in the philosophy of law and in political philosophy. We will begin with an examination of the concept of a legal system and then follow some connected ideas - such as rights, obligations, the relation of law and morality, the nature of contracts - as determined by the interests of the class.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Mind, Matter and Language (PHIL08014) AND Knowledge and Reality (PHIL08017)

Pre-requisites Visiting students should have at least 3 Philosophy courses at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses.

Assessment Information
Assessment will be by 2-hour examination in the June diet. Senior Honours students may opt to write a long essay (approximately 5000 words) in lieu of the final exam.
