Course description The course will examine different ancient theories of being. We discuss some Presocratic approaches to the problem of being (notably, Heraclitus and Parmenides), Plato's theory of forms and Aristotle's theory of substance, and the ontologies of the most prominent Hellenistic schools (Epicurean, Stoic and Sceptic).

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Mind, Matter and Language (PHIL08014) AND Knowledge and Reality (PHIL08017)

Pre-requisites Visiting students should have at least 3 Philosophy courses at grade B or above (or be predicted to obtain this). We will only consider University/College level courses.
