Course descriptionA course in cellular and molecular immunology presented in the context of human disease: cells and tissues of the immune system; antibodies, T cell receptors and immune recognition; the regulation of immune responses; defects of the immune system; AIDS; immunity to pathogens and vaccines. Laboratory work illustrates the lectures and gives some practice in experimental applications.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Genes and Gene Action 2 (BILG08003) AND The Dynamic Cell 2 (BILG08009) OR Microorganisms, Cells and Immunity 2 (BILG08004)

Additional Costs Students should supply a lab coat, notebook and marker pen.

Normally, two compulsory items of in-course assessment: prepared Essay [25%] and a Practical Test consisting of questions on material covered in practicals [15%]).

Degree examination: one 2-hour examination in December [60%].
