Course descriptionThe aim of this course is to build upon students&© existing knowledge of the subject. The course will begin by considering the different theoretical approaches to understanding human resource management. It will then consider some contemporary issues in dept, for example, diversity, compensation, training and learning, and flexible working. The overarching theme of the course will be the interplay between individualised and collectivised approaches to human resource management.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Managing Employment Relations (BUST08010) OR Organisation Studies (BUST08011)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
(a) describe and discuss key issues and controversies associated with current debates in human resource management;
(b) critically assess the objectives, rationales, uses and limitations of various managerial policies and practices in human resource management;
(c) identify the scale and nature of adoption of specific human resource policies:
(d) speculate upon longer term consequences of current trends.
