Course descriptionCore second year course for Honours Degrees including Statistics.

Syllabus summary: Descriptive statistics; scatter diagrams, correlation; sample means and variances. Statistical concepts, sampling distributions. Expectation and variance of common distributions and statistics. Introduction to estimation and hypothesis testing.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
1. Knowledge of common descriptive statistical procedures, and how they can be implemented in a statistical package.
2. Understanding of randomness and, in particular, sampling distributions.
3. Ability to conduct simple inferential procedures and to exercise diagnostic and interpretative skills.
