Course descriptionThis half-course will deal with the quantitative and qualitative methods for carrying out and assessing different methods of research investigation in Sport Science. The philosophy underpinning the study of Sport Science will be studied and students will be encouraged to review and critically appraise reported research studies in the literature of the area. Students will also take part in data collection exercises to illustrate the principles of research in Sport Science.

Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Sport Science 1A (SPRT08002) AND Sport Science 1B (SPRT08003)

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Understand basic philosophical principles behind the study of science; locate, understand and critise research papers in sports science; appreciate the principles underpinning research design; formulate hypotheses for data collection exercises; understand descriptive statistical techniques.
Assessment Information
1 x 2 hr examination (60%) AND 2000-word critical literature review focusing on experimental design and analysis.(40%)
