Course descriptionThis course is only available to ECA students on degree programmes belonging to the School of Art.

This course encourages you to develop a sophisticated theoretical narrative and historical perspective for your practice. The focus is placed more upon your own work and its development in relation to the broader field of visual culture. You are encouraged to present and contextualise your practice in a manner that is both articulate and creative. This course consists of two elective projects which are designed to advance your creative confidence and analytical abilities to this end.

Aims of course
1 To encourage you to critically reappraise your practice and to support you in developing a variety of communication skills to communicate your intent clearly.
2 To offer you a range of short electives that allow you to pursue your key creative ideas in more depth and detail.
3 To introduce you to a variety of creative research approaches and to aid you in the development of appropriate research methods that you can test out in your practice.

Pre-requisites Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Art Practice 3 (ARTX09072) AND Visual Research 3 (ARTX09075) AND Presentation: Methods & Context 3 (ARTX09073)

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. You will be assessed against three Learning Outcomes and all are equally weighted:
Investigation: Research and show a critical understanding of the methods of enquiry and resources you use.

2. Reflection: Analyse, evaluate and reflect critically upon your methods, resources and the results you produce.
3. Application: Demonstrate your research and analysis in a structured, coherent and creative way.
Assessment Information
Two assessed written projects, one in each Semester, with summative assessment at the end of Semester 2.
