Course descriptionAn intensive course in spoken and written Swedish for students with no previous knowledge of the language. Introduction to modern Swedish literature and civilisation with selected texts. The course is open to students of all years but not to students qualified for admission to Swedish 1B. A good deal of private study is necessary in order to meet the requirements of the course.

Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking Swedish 1A (ELCS08005) OR Danish 1A (ELCS08001)
Other requirements A pass in Higher Grade (SCE) or at Advanced level (GCE) in a modern or classical language, or equivalent evidence of linguistic proficiency

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
To provide a firm grounding in the Swedish language and an introduction to literary and cultural issues.
Assessment Information
3 pieces of written work; 1 oral assessment; 1 two-hour class exam. Continuous assessment 50%; class examination 10%; oral examination 10%; degree examination 30%.
