SummaryThis course, together with Chemistry/Chemical Physics Year in Industry Level 11 (alongside which it must always be taken), constitutes full-year full-time placement work within an approved chemical company or research institute. The two courses are the standard Year 4 curriculum for students on the degree programmes Chemistry with Industrial Experience, Medicinal and Biological Chemistry with Industrial Experience, Chemistry with Environmental Chemistry and Industrial Experience, or Chemical Physics with Industrial Experience. Students spend 12 months working on a project related to chemistry or chemical physics while employed by an approved company or research institute. Students are recruited by companies on a competitive basis and may choose those to which they wish to submit applications on the basis of their interests and preferred geographical location. Some continental European locations may be available to suitably qualified students. Coursework for completion during the year is provided by the University of Edinburgh. Assessment consists of marks for coursework, a written literature survey, an oral presentation and aspects of the performance on the placement.
