Course descriptionThis course is for post-beginners with some knowledge of Japanese or students who successfully completed Foundation Japanese 1 or Introductory Japanese 1. It is not suitable for absolute beginners.
The examination will consist of a two-hour written paper.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites It is RECOMMENDED that students have passed ( Foundation Japanese Language 1 (ASST07008) OR Foundation Japanese Language 1 (ASST07009) OR Introductory Japanese 1 (ASST07001) OR Introductory Japanese 1 (ASST07007))
Co-requisites
Prohibited Combinations It is RECOMMENDED that students do NOT also take ( Japanese 1 (ASST08002) AND Japanese 2A (ASST08006) AND Japanese 2B (ASST08007))
Students MUST NOT also be taking Foundation Japanese 2 (ASST07013)
Other requirements Successful completion of Foundation Japanese 1 or Introductory Japanese 1 or having equivalent knowledge of Japanese language: at least being able to write and read Hiragana/Katakana.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students will further develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. They will further develop knowledge of basic grammatical structures and a vocabulary of approximately 1000 high-frequency words and phrases including some basic kanji.

Course work including class participation 50%; degree exam 50%.
