Course descriptionThis course in spoken and written French is designed for students who have some knowledge of French (approximately Standard Grade/GCSE level) and who wish to extend it.

All students take all elements of assessment including the degree examination (2 hours).

There is an identical course (Elementary French Language - ELCF07006) which runs in the second semester.

On successful completion of the course students will have the option of taking Intermediate French Language ELCF07006 (20 credits), which follows on from Elementary French Language.

Prohibited Combinations Students MUST NOT also be taking ELEMENTARY FRENCH LANGUAGE (SEMESTER 2) (ELCF07006)
Other requirements French at Standard Grade (SCE)/GCSE or equivalent evidence of proficiency.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Improved competence in the four main skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing French. This greater competence is intended to lead to greater confidence and to enhance the ability to learn independently.
Assessment Information
Coursework 50% (including class tests and oral assignments)
Degree exam 50% (A two-hour written paper)

All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.
Special Arrangements
This course is open to all students as a credit bearing course, or over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course. DELC students may only take this course if it over and above their full credit load, as a non credit bearing course.
