Individual studio based practice

Aims of course
1 To begin to explore the specialist language of current practice within painting.
2 Begin to explore an appropriate range of techniques and methods relevant to current practice.
3 To develop a visual language that reflects personal and external concerns within the area of painting.

Mode of delivery
Studio based, Group Crit, Individual mentoring, Review.
Course description Introduce and expand issues with contemporary art studio practice.

Mixture of one hour group seminars and studio critiques.
Entry Requirements (not applicable to Visiting Students)
Pre-requisites Students MUST have passed: Studio 1 (Art) (ARTX07003)
Co-requisites Students MUST also take: Research Drawing 2 (Painting) (ARTX08020) AND Professional Practice 2 (Painting) (ARTX08021) AND Contemporary Art Practice (AREA08001) AND Art 2: Postmodernism and After (ARTX08025)
Prohibited Combinations Other requirements This course is only available to ECA students on degree programmes belonging to the School of Art.

Direct Entry students to Year 2 must have Recognised Prior Learning equivalent to 120 credits.
Additional Costs ECA students are required to pay the cost of material used throughout their programme of study.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of current practice within painting.
  2. Show evidence of experimentation, creativity and development in appropriate methods of production.
  3. Present a body of work that reflects personal identity and approach
