This course offers students the opportunity to acquire and demonstrate the professional skills required to equip them for a successful transition from higher education to the professional context of a working artist or designer-maker.
Aims of course
1. To ensure that students are able to research and apply knowledge related to the professional, legal, ethical and fiscal frameworks within which artists operate in the UK
2. To equip students to enable them to discuss, analyse and present their own work in contexts, fora and formats appropriate to the professional environment of a working artist/designer
3. To develop students' competence in carrying out both individually and within the group studentship activities that are directly relevant to the professional concerns of this module

| Course description |
This is the fifth course in the Research Methodologies and Reflective Practice series and it asks students to research the professional opportunities, such as funding, studios and galleries, which will be open to them when they graduate. The reflective practice aspect allows students to work together to find out more about how other artists and designers think and operate and to present their findings as a group activity. The studentship element encourages further investigation in to activities beyond the degree programme and asks students to reflect on the learning gained.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate confident understanding of professional art/design contexts in Scotland and a grasp of related issues of funding and ethics.
- Show an ability to work with a peer group to develop advanced joint projects including a presentation to an audience
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the ways in which Studentship enhances individual learning at this level and within the professional environment
