Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- form a mature and critical understanding of an aspect of South Asian Buddhist history, philosophy, literature through the writing of a supervised dissertation.
- analyse and evaluate a range of primary sources relating to a topic of their choice relating to an aspect of pre-modern South Asian Buddhism and provide a critical assessment of scholarly discussion.
- develop skills in critically assessing pre-modern Buddhist culture which they can transfer to the study of other religions and areas of cultural history.
- communicate their awareness of an aspect of pre-modern Buddhism as a unique cultural endeavour which at the same time overlap with other religions and cultures.
- develop skills based on their independent writing project and attain levels of articulacy and coherence in discussion with the dissertation supervisor appropriate to the level of study.
