| Summary | Students must gain a pass of 50% or more in Chinese Language II and an average of 50% or more in the lecture courses in order to proceed to the dissertation. The MCS is awarded on the basis of the mark gained for the dissertation. The dissertation will be 15,000 words in length (excluding bibliography). Candidates who fail to achieve the MCS standard in their marked coursework will not be allowed to proceed further with the writing of the dissertation. MCS candidates failing to achieve an adequate standard in the dissertation may be awarded the diploma.
Students will receive regular supervision and will be expected to liaise regularly with their supervisor and submit material for comment at agreed times. Supervisors will not read and comment on full drafts of the dissertation. |

Learning Outcomes
Students will have a good knowledge of modern Chinese history, society and culture, and advanced knowledge in modern politics, economics, business or management;
students will be able to communicate this knowledge effectively in writing, with attention to coherent structure, logical argument, a high level of literacy, and advanced presentation skills;
