SummaryThe course will consist of 10, sessions (2hrs per week)., In the first 3 weeks, the basic principles of human embryology will be described in a series of lectures, covering: Gametogenesis, Development from fertilization to the blastocyst stage, Implantation and placental development and Embryogenesis.

The subsequent 6 sessions will be student-lead and will focus on the specific systematic embryology, which complements Course 1 + 5 (Gross Anatomy): Cardiovascular system, alimentary system, urogenital system, nervous system, limbs, head and neck.

In these sessions, students will present, in small groups to the whole class on one of these topics. Presentations will be open for discussion, and academic staff will ensure that sufficient material has been covered in each session. Presentations, will be made available via the internet and will form a key learning aid for the course.

In addition there will be a Lecture-Demonstration in The Human Embryology-Fetal Collection. An extensive collection of fetal material held within the department will be used to demonstrate many of the subjects covered in prior lectures.

Learning Outcomes
