SummaryA research or practical project which explores an aspect (of the student's choice) of science communication/public engagement to be disseminated in a dissertation of 12,000 words.
Course description There are a range of project opportunities available i.e. from research based projects and /or practical projects. The project supervisor will undertake to instruct students on the analysis and research methods required for the project and this approach is consistent with their approach for students (on other programmes undertaking a Masters dissertation) with no previous knowledge of social science/science education research methodologies. The project will draw on the aggregated learning outcomes of the programme and students will develop, with supervision, a science communication activity or area of research which they will analyse and reflect upon in a 12,000 word dissertation.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Ability to plan and execute a research or practical project
  2. Ability to utilise relevant literature sources
  3. An understanding of the practical or research processes necessary to complete the work
  4. An ability to demonstrate understanding of the subject, drawing on learning from the programme
  5. An ability to demonstrate critical thinking in the analysis and conclusions of the dissertation
