Summary	This post-beginners course is intended for students who have successfully completed Foundation German Language 2 (ELCG07008) or have reached an equivalent standard at CEFR level A2/1. It is not suitable for absolute beginners or students with knowledge of German at A-level or Advanced Highers. A placement test will be given at the First Class Meeting.
Course description	Foundation German 3 is a ten week course. This is an SCQF Level 7 course which carries 20 credits. Students may take this course for extra credit. The course is open for undergraduate and postgraduate students from all Colleges, whether for credit or as an extra credit course. Students from DELC have to do this course as an extra credit course. Foundation German 3 is the follow-up to the 40 hour Foundation German 2 course or Intermediate German. Students who have successfully completed the Foundation German 2 course or the Intermediate German course or have an equivalent knowledge (Higher or AS level) will be ideally suited for this course. This course is not suitable for students who have Advanced Higher or A level. At the end of the course students should have reached approximately CEFR level A2+. Students wishing to continue learning German will be eligible to join German 1B ELCG08002.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to: Knowledge and understanding: Recognize and understand frequently used expressions in routine contexts of daily life in a German-language environment; identify topics of discussion in interactions between native speakers when articulated clearly and slowly; maintain an intermediate level of grammatical accuracy and vocabulary range in written and spoken German. Practice, applied knowledge and understanding: Achieve German language competence comparable to the CEFR Level A2+; reading comprehension of short texts relating to everyday material: orientation, correspondence, news, brochures; written interaction in matters relating to personal needs: routine written correspondence and enquiries; listening comprehension of the main points of recorded news items and commonplace dialogues: spoken interaction in structured situations; asking and answering questions and exchanging in ideas on familiar topics. Generic cognitive skills: Produce, read and discuss texts relating to everyday themes; engage in listening, spoken and written language activities at A2+ level. Communication and ICT: Give a power-point presentation on a selected topic; hold a short monologue; communicate as a basic language user in formal and informal situations: exchanging information on routine topics; establishing social contact and participating in short conversations; expressing thanks, apologies, feelings and preferences; agreeing and disagreeing; responding to suggestions; making arrangements and making oneself understood in an interview. Autonomy, accountability and working with others: Take responsibility for independent vocabulary acquisition and grammatical study; for monitoring one�s engagement in German language activities outside of the classroom.
