SummaryThis post-introductory course is intended for students who have successfully completed Foundation Portuguese Language 1 (ELCH07012) or have reached an equivalent standard (Standard Grade/GCSE). It is not suitable for absolute beginners or students with knowledge of Portuguese at Highers/AS-level or above.
All students take all elements of assessment, including the examination.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Develop their knowledge of the language in a wide variety of situations using more complex vocabulary and grammar.
  2. Continue to develop a more nuanced command of a critical understanding of a range of more specific areas in Portuguese-speaking cultures and societies (Brazil, Portugal and Lusophone Africa).
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the main ideas of complex speech on concrete and abstract topics, and an ability to rapidly grasp the content and significance of a range of written material.
  4. Write at length about topical and cultural issues in a critical manner summarising information accurately and developing a clear argument.
  5. Further develop effective communication, presentation and interaction skills across a range of media, on both a spontaneous and prepared basis.
