|Summary||This course is intended for students who spend a year abroad and who opt to write a dissertation for Linguistics and English Language.
Completion of a dissertation, based on supervision during the fourth year of study. There will also be a short 'dissertation preparation course', taught at the start of students' fourth year of studies.

| Students will be able to:
- demonstrate advanced mastery of general and subject-specific skills, knowledge and understanding of language sciences at an appropriate level;
- demonstrate the ability to plan, design and/or execute an original piece of research, to succinctly report results within an appropriate theoretical framework, and to relate results to the existing literature and the field as a whole.

Sem 1 weeks 1 - 7 for lectures, other small group meetings to be scheduled for Sem 1 weeks 8 - 14.
Individual supervision typically amounting to about 6 hrs but subject to the supervisor's judgement.
