| Summary | These three men were amongst the most inspired creators in the history of art exerting a powerful force on the Italian High Renaissance and on subsequent Western art in general. This course will examine each artist¿s career in detail, placing it within the cultural and political context of the time. |

Week 4: Michelangelo, apprenticeship and early career in Florence
Week 5: Michelangelo and the papacy part one
Week 6: Michelangelo and the papacy part two
Week 7: Raphael and the Court of Urbino
Week 8: Raphael and the influence of Florence
Week 9: Raphael in Rome
Week 10: Visit to the National Gallery of Scotland

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- demonstrate a wide-ranging knowledge of the artwork which characterised the Italian High Renaissance
- assess and compare the artists responsible for the work, and their contexts
- engage critically with the historical circumstances and extant evidence
- analyse the iconographic and compositional elements of a work of art.
