How do you turn a great novel into a great film? This course will study a selection of American texts which achieve this difficult feat, from Edith Wharton's 'The House of Mirth', through Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men' and Hemingway's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', and finishing with Truman Capote's 'Breakfast at Tiffany's¿.

¿ apply relevant critical analysis to the individual texts and films studied in class;
¿ comparatively discuss the original literary texts and their film adaptation;
