SummaryModern society often appears ill equipped to manage news of death and today death is routinely medicalised and hidden social view. Within this context, health care professionals encounter patients at the end-of-life regardless of type of speciality practice. Pain management in this context presents a unique set of challenges for both patient and healthcare professional. Knowledge of ¿total pain¿ concepts (the interrelationship of a person's physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and practical struggles) along with basic end-of-life pain management can offer much to provide comfort to patients and their families.
This course provides an examination of current pain management practice in the context of end-of-life care.

Learning Outcomes
The course aims to contribute to improved patient outcomes by providing postgraduate, clinically relevant education of international standard in the sciences, concepts, approaches and procedures forming that form the basis of the management of pain in end-of-life care.
Students will be exposed to and will be encouraged to apply current clinical knowledge to case study based learning problems within a clinical context.
