SummaryThere are two contact hours per week, practising written and spoken Spanish: Spanish Language Paper 1 and Spanish Oral. Normally, Spanish 3 Language students will be taught together with Spanish 4 students in these classes but they will be assessed at third year level (SCQF level 9). Similarly, most students are also required to take a literature course of 2 hours per week for one semester.

Additional Information (Assessment) Assessment is by class work (40%) and degree examination (60%). Class work is composed of the best two marks of a total of four language assessments (two per semester). Degree examination is two listening exams, one oral and a centrally arranged exam.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate a broad palette of Spanish vocabulary with a good degree of grammatical accuracy, to participate actively in extended conversation on most general and many abstract topics, supported by a well-rounded understanding of Spanish culture.
  2. Engage successfully with all kinds of speech on familiar matters, as well as long and complex factual and literary texts, with figurative or specialised language.
  3. Produce clear, complex reports, articles and essays, which develop arguments both critically and systematically with the use of relevant emphases, subsidiary points, and examples.
  4. Demonstrate well-honed communication, presentation and interaction skills across a wide range of media and circumstances.
  5. Exercise autonomy and initiative, taking responsibility for the work of others and for a range of resources.
