Entry into Honours:
1. Students must pass courses to the required value of 240 credits in the first two years.
2. Students must achieve 50% or more at first attempt in all required second-year courses for their registered degree.
3. Students must achieve at least 50% overall in the relevant second-year language courses(s), including at least 50% in the language component of that course.
4. All courses (including outside subjects) must be passed before embarking on the year abroad (an outside course passed at Resit in August will be acceptable).

At least 30 weeks must be spent in a German-speaking country and prescribed work completed in Celtic and German in an approved establishment.

One unit of assessment is allocated to every 20 credits and constitutes one 20-credit paper. The following are the twelve 20-credit papers on which the classification of the degree is based. Papers that for the purposes of degree classification acquire a weighting of 40 credits are, therefore, listed twice.
1. German Language Paper 1 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP1 course)
2. German Language Paper 2 (10 credits from Language acquisition and 10 from Y4 LP2 course)
3. Oral for German (taught and assessed in Y4)
4. German Online Language Course for Year Abroad Students
5. Year Abroad Work for Celtic
6. Year Abroad Work for Celtic (same mark as 5)
7. MEL Year Abroad work or MEL Dissertation Preparation (see 8)
8. MEL Long Essay OR MEL Dissertation Completion (Papers 7 & 8 are a combined grade 10% from preparation and 90% from final dissertation preparation. Credits cannot be awarded for Dissertation preparation unless the full 2 year course is completed.)
